My So-Called Internet Based Life

Ah, what a tangled web we weave when we change jobs. Life is so strange sometimes, n’est c’est pas?

Anyway. I have promised the scoop and the scoop I will give you – I didn’t realize that I still hadn’t gone into any of the details here on dland. My bad.

So Jeremy called me a few weeks ago and left me a voicemail saying “Hey, give me a call – I might have a job for you.” So I call him back, and one of the brokers at the investment firm where he works has just lost his assistant. (Heh. That sounds funny, like she went wandering off or something.) Anyway, so I email my resume, and talk to him on the phone, and go in for an interview that day. That was February 11. I got the job offer Friday, February 13, which was pretty cool.

Basically, I’m the assistant to a broker. Pretty much the same thing I did in Milwaukee when I was in college, but they want to license me and they’re paying me substantially more than I was making as an intern. So that is pretty cool. I think once I get some stuff cleared out of this desk and figure out what I’m doing then I will start studying for the exams. Whee. I am actually excited about this – I liked being in investments so much more than real estate.

But here is kind of a weird thing – the company I work for (the one I just started working for YESTERDAY) just finalized a deal to be bought out by another securities firm. It’s a great deal for me, basically because I get to keep my job and I guess the benefits are better at the new place. I haven’t seen any paperwork yet but I guess I’ll trust what I’ve been told. And the bad thing about this: Jeremy is getting laid off. Truly odd – I start working at his company the same day he finds out he’s losing his job.

See what I mean? Tangled web.

In other news, I finally got below the ten-minute mark for my mile time. Yay! I’m at 9.48, which isn’t anything too terribly impressive but which is excellent for me. So good for me. I think I’m going to register for a 5k this spring… I don’t know where all this motivation to work out is coming from but it’s a good thing. And man, I left the gym positively GIDDY last night – it hurts horribly and I start to lose motivation between 2 and 2 ½ miles, but after that it’s smooth sailing, awesomeness.

Plus I had a massage last night. How much do I love aveda massage oil, you ask? Words fail me, I love it so.
